Sham for encouraging youth to actively participate in sports activities

Jammu: Stressing the need for encouraging youth to actively take part in sports activities, the Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary said sports play key role in keeping the physique fit and healthy, besides inculcate sense of team spirit, responsibility and quick decision which are important in life.

The Minister was speaking at the concluding function of 2nd Chuni Lal Choudhary Memorial Volley Ball Tournament at Sports Stadium Chakrohi Thursday.

The Minister said the there is ample sports potential in the area and added that provision of improved sports infrastructure and opportunities at their doorsteps, the youth of the area will prove their mettle in all sports and games. He said even lack of facilities and training, the budding players played well during the tournament. The Government has taken various initiatives to upgrade the existing sports infrastructure and to impart necessary training to the enthusiastic players so that they can participate at national and international levels and bring laurel to the State, he added.

The Minister said the aim of organizing the event was to promote sports culture among the youth of the area, besides sensitizing the general masses about the importance of preservation of water sources and its judicious uses by involving youth as they can play effective role in this regard. The CCDU of the PHE department has been organizing workshops, Melas and tournaments in this regard.

Responding to the demand, the Minister said the work on construction of old block of Local Higher Secondary School will be initiated soon for the convenience of students. The Management of the School thanked the Minister for construction of utility block in the School.

Paying rich tribute to Late Chuni Lal Choudhary, the Minister said the late leader spent his whole life for the better and development of the area.

The 3-day Volley Ball tournament was organized by Communication & Capacity Development Unit (CCDU), Department of PHE, Jammu in which Department of Youth Services and Sports extended technical support.

As many as 28 teams participated during the tournament in which  Fattu Chak Volley Ball team won the final of the tournament from Jangwal Volley Ball team.

Later, the Minister gave away trophies and mementoes among the winner and runner-up tea

Executive Director CCDU, senior engineers, prominent citizens besides large number of sports lovers were present on the occasion.
