PDP’s unfriendly ally

Modi government trashes the demand of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti over engagement with Pakistan not within days but within hours and hints of no return from disengagement with Pakistan dropped by key central leaders including Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi show that BJP does not treat Mehbooba Mufti the leader of a coalition partner but the head of an unfriendly ally. The attacks on students are continuing despite repeated calls for restraint from Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and participation of BJP’s sitting legislator in a protest rally of ‘Hindi Ekta Munch’ taken out in the support of Kathua girl murder accused did not attract even a word of condemnation from any top functionary of the state unit of the BJP. The non cooperation of BJP in attacks on Kashmiri students in educational institutions in the states where the saffron party is in power and the investigation into Kathua girl murder case shows that Chief Minister is running the government with an unfriendly ally. So for Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has not dared even to convey her party’s displeasure over the participation of a BJP legislator in a rally of “Hindu Ekta Manch’ taken out in support of the Kathua murder girl case accused. Mehbooba Mufti as Chief Minister has been talking very high about the tolerance shown by hindus in Jammu regions but she does not bother to seek an explanation from the BJP over the BJP for attending a rally taken out in favour of a man arrested on charges of rape and murder of a minor girl in hindu dominated Kathua district. For last several months the BJP and its hard core affiliates have been creating a fearful atmosphere in hindu dominated Jammu districts and the intolerance of BJP has crossed limits to the extent that even speaker assembly Kavinder Gupta leveled intolerable allegations against the rohingya muslims over Jammu army camp attack on the floor of the state assembly two days before the budget session ended.
Though BJP is consistently showing non cooperation in the working of a coalition government of which it is a part but unfortunately Chief Minister does not utter even a single word against BJP for showing non cooperation in the working of the government. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti herself has been talking very high about her commitment to the ‘agenda of alliance” but BJP does not shown any respect to the “agenda of alliance” declared “scared” by Nayeem Akhter the government spokesman and the trusted cabinet colleague of the Chief Minister. Unless and until the Chief Minister does not raise questions over the BJP’s non cooperation in the working of the government, she won’t find it easy to take the crucial decisions of her government to logical conclusion.
