Sham inaugurates Sports Stadium at Chakroi in Suchetgarh Constituency

Jammu: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary Tuesday inaugurated sport stadium at village Chakroi in Suchetgarh Constituency.

The Stadium has been developed by Rural Development Department by utilizing Rs 30 lakh under development of model village Lower Chakroi Scheme.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the stadium, the Minister said the Government is working to provide better sports infrastructure to youth of the State. He said the government has devised a comprehensive plan to upgrade existing infrastructure and to develop new stadia and playfields in rural areas of the State. He said development of sports infrastructure at village and block levels would provide opportunity to enthusiastic players to show their hidden talents in different sports.

Referring to special package of Rs 200 crore announced for J&K State for development of sports infrastructure by Union Government under Prime Minister’s Development package, the Minister said it would go a long way in strengthening the existing sports infrastructure of the State. He said the package would be utilized for creation of state-of-the-art sports facilities in the State which would help in producing ace players.

Calling upon the youth to actively participate in sports activities, Sham Choudhary said sports activities keep our physique fit and strong.  He said the youth of border areas have ample talent in sports and there is need to channelize their talent in the right direction by provide them appropriate platform, adding that organizing such event in the area is an initiative in this regard.

Appreciating the organizers for organizing the Mega event, the Minister asked the concerned for organizing such more events in future also. Such events provide a platform to the budding players to show their hidden talent in sports, he added.

Later, the Minister declared open 2nd Chuni Lal Memorial Volleyball Tournament for boys in the same stadium.

The 3-day tournament has been sponsored by Communication & Capacity Development Unit (CCDU), Department of PHE, Jammu in which 22 teams are being participated.

It is worthwhile to mention here that the CCDU is organized such tournaments to create awareness among general masses about the judicious use of water and importance of preservation of water sources.
