Srinagar: The citizens of Srinagar felt that downtown Srinagar though being the actual Srinagar city has been the victim of the neglect in various spheres of life which otherwise are indicative of a civilized society. In order to ensure that the residence of the downtown Srinagar share their role with respect to the eradication of the various problems/ evils which are faced by the residents of the downtown day in and day out, an umbrella committee “Downtown coordination committee” (DCC) comprising people from different sections of the society has come together to raise a voice with respect to these issues in downtown Srinagar. The DCC is an initiative of the centre for youth development which has been implemental with respect to various initiatives pertaining to the development of youth in particular and social development in general.
With the onset of the transport explosion, we daily come across with the incidents of fatal traffic accidents consuming precious lives. A delegation of DCC led by Imtiyaz Rashid Chashti along with Syed Mujahid, Tariq A Dhar, Omer Firous and Shafi Naqeeb Sahib had a meeting with ASP Traffic Srinagar and raise the concern of traffic jam in the old city especially at Safakadal, Rajorikadal, Gojiwara and Hawal. ASP Muzaffar Ahmed Shah Sahib assured the delegation that necessary step will be taken to streamline the traffic in the old city and sort support of the people in observing traffic norms. DCC request other departments like PDD, SMC, RNB & Transport department to clear the hurdles which cause traffic jams.
