Srinagar: The State Accountability Commission has rejected the request of Kashmir Legislator Engineer Rashid to investigate into his assets in the wake of allegations against him of having amassed disproportionate assets at various places.
Engineer Rashid had filed an application before the Commission seeking investigation into his assets following the allegations levelled against him by certain Indian news channels.
The Commission headed by its Chairperson former Chief Justice Bashir Ahmed Khan and two members Justice (rtd) JP Singh and Justice (rtd) Bashir Ahmed Kirmani which met a few days ago at Jammu considered the case of MLA Engineer Rahid and turned down his request for want of jurisdiction and dismissed the application on the ground that it had no jurisdiction to investigate or enquire into the assets of any public functionary unless a complaint was made in that regard under section 11 of the Jammu Kashmir Accountability Commission Act.
In response to the reply forwarded by the Commission, Engineer Rasheed asked government to verify the assets of politicians and bureaucrats in the interest of the general public.
