Srinagar/Feb,17: A complete shutdown against the killing of a leader of Hurriyat Conference(G) leader and prevailing human rights situation is being observed in valley today.
All shops and other commercial establishments are closed in commercial hub Lal Chowk in Srinagar while public transport is mostly off the roads.Meanwhile, curbs were imposed by the authorities in downtown area of capital city Srinagar in wake of the shutdown call given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL).
Contingents of paramilitary forces have been deployed at all entry and exit points of downtown Srinagar, while lanes and by lanes have been blocked by concertina wires to prevent people from taking out any protests.
Pedestrian movement is allowed only after thorough frisking in downtown Srinagar.However, in peripheries and uptown areas of Srinagar public transport was seen plying on the roads.JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, has called for shutdown against shifting of local detainees to outside jails, “murder” of a Hurriyat activist by unidentified gunmen and deteriorating rights situation in Kashmir.
