With closure of unlicensed brick kilns, Budgam moving towards adding green spaces

Budgam: Budgam district has started leaping towards the change with district Agricultural department striving hard to retrieve the barren land and later converting it into high yield vegetable growing produce.
The Agricultural Department with its strenuous efforts retrieved four Kanal of brick kiln land in village Gariend and motivated its owner to start an agricultural activity on it.
“It was a challenge for the department. However, soon our efforts bore fruits when the introduction of high yield varieties of vegetables on this land generated an income of Rs 40, 000 for the owner from his first crop,” said Chief Agricultural Officer (CAO) Budgam, Shabir Ahmad Allaqaband.
Elaborating on the initiative, the CAO said the land was identified as a demonstration plot. Since it gave positive results, therefore, it would be used for the promotion of expanding agricultural activities, especially vegetable growing in the entire area, explained Allaqaband.
Stressing on the need to retrieve as much land used for unregistered and unauthorized brick kilns as possible and to convert it for the agricultural purposes, Allaqaband said the soil of Budgam has been fertile and rich for agricultural and horticultural purposes.
He said the department will continue its endeavour to strive hard to retrieve agricultural land as possible so that the fertility of the land in the district does not go waste.
Due to various unlicensed brick kilns in Budgam had resulted in swindling of the soil posing threat to agricultural production in the area.
Meanwhile, the Agricultural department has also started high-end Bulgarian Rose cultivation in the district. Besides, for promotion and its cultivation, the department also started a trial of Bulgarian rose at village Kehpora of Sub-Division Khansaheb.
The officials said after the successful trials, the department would also try to attract farmers for its cultivation for the progressive farming in suitable areas.
