Keeping in view the experiences of hostilities and confrontation of over last more than six decades the truce has become the only option for lasting peace on borders of India and Pakistan and more so on LoC dividing two parts of Jammu & Kashmir state. The recent meeting of National Security Advisors’ (NSAs’) of India and Pakistan was though encouraging for the peace makers in both New Delhi and Islamabad, but the hopes of forward movements in bilateral relations generated by meeting of the National Security Advisors (NSAs) did not last long due to provocative and counter provocativ statements by helmsmen in New Delhi and Islamabad. Unless and until both New Delhi and Islamabad don’t understand the imperativeness of border truce , peace can’t be restored in Jammu & Kashmir. Right now both the countries are accusing each other of instigating fresh round of conflicts on borders dividing two parts of Jammu & Kashmir state. It is very unfortunate that ceasefire violations have now become a daily occurrence. Times are such that it hardly matters who shot first as enough casualties on both sides indicate that even if one side started it, the other most emphatically ended it. Both countries have legitimate grievances against each other. The provocative statements have not helped either as provocations are never conducive to friendliness in bilateral relations of the two countres.Better for both India and Pakistan to negotiate each other concerns across the table in the bilateral meetings.
It is very unfortunate that the cross-border firing on the line of control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir in recent days is an indication that both countries seem to prefer the more expedient option of ‘shoot first, talk later’. Such a policy is hardly to going change the scenario within and outside Jammu & Kashmir where the people yearn for peace and conflict resolution. The suspension of bilateral talks have taken Jammu & Kashmir farther away from peace and it is for the Modi led BJP Government to bring back the people of Jammu & Kashmir nearer to peace through a conflict resolution process. Since peace can’t be restored without respecting the true on borders, politicians in both India and Pakistan have to come forward to clear the misunderstandings developing between New Delhi and Islamabad in the backdrop of continuing firing on borders in Jammu & Kashmir. So if the politicians on both sides don’t stem the tide, the relationship is about to get a lot more dangerous in coming months. The sooner the leaders on both the sides respond to the calls of mutual trust and reconciliation, the better it would be for the future of peace and conflict resolution in Jammu & Kashmir state.
