Srinagar/Feb,13: Gunfight between militants and the government forces resumed Tuesday morning in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar city as fresh firing exchanges started.
Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants, according to police, took cover inside an under construction building in Karan Nagar area on Monday after “an alert sentry foiled their bid to launch a Fidayeen attack” on a nearby CRPF camp.The militants had entered this building after the sentry at the observation post of 23 battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) spotted them and fired.
One CRPF trooper was killed during the gunfight while a constable of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was injured.
“Encounter is still going on, we are operating cautiously to avoid any collateral damage to citizens and property,” Zulfiqar Hasan, IG Operation, CRPF was quoted as having said by the ANI news agency.Meanwhile, reports said that restrictions have been imposed in various areas of Downtown Srinagar to prevent youth from staging protests near the site of the gunfight.
