Sajad Lone chairs JKWDC BoD meet

Jammu: The Board of Directors of Jammu and Kashmir Women’s Development Corporation (JKWDC) met here on Saturday under the chairmanship of Minister Social Welfare, ARI & Trainings and Science & Technology, Sajad Gani Lone.

Minister of State for Social Welfare, Asiea Naqash, Vice Chairperson, JKWDC, Vijay Dogra, , were also present in the meeting.

Sajad Lone, while addressing the meeting, appreciated JKWDC for its performance and quick clearance of various accounts in arrears since long.

The Minister stressed that JKWDC should take initiatives of preparing high end designs to compete at international market after branding WDC products.

The Minister, while highlighting the role of JKWDC said this has become a role model for other agencies dealing with the empowerment of the women.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Health & Medical Education, Social Welfare, Housing & Urban Development Departments and Power Development Department Asiea Naqash said Corporation has successfully carried out its activities not only in cities and towns but also in the remote areas of the State.

The Ministers emphasized on giving due priority to the uncovered areas so that women living there can also be benefited by the schemes of the Corporation.

They said the sole aim of the agency with other concerned departments should be to empower the women folk socially and economically so that they may be able to earn their livelihood with full honour and dignity.

The Managing Director, JKWDC, Naheed Soz gave a detailed resume of the activities and achievement by the Corporation. She said the Corporation has been awarded at National Level for implementing various schemes and programs in the State successfully.

While highlighting achievements of JKWDC she briefed the meeting about the present status of various schemes launched by the Corporation for  upliftment of the women folk.

The meeting was apprised that so far Corporation has disbursed loan amounting to Rs 151.41 crore and has covered 14571 beneficiaries from its inception in 1997. The Board was apprised that the Corporation has successfully recovered 98% loan from the beneficiaries.  However, the Board recommended for waiving off an amount of Rs 20 lakhs approximately in respect of 23 beneficiaries who have died and their NoKs cannot return the loan.

The meeting was informed the the Board conducted training programs under which Vocational training was  imparted  to 7000 beneficiaries under various trades. Also   Rs 5.64 crore were disbursed  in favour of the Self Help Groups (SHGs) framed during training under Micro Finance Scheme of Government of India.

The Board approved all the pending administrative matters related to   welfare of the employees of the Corporation.
