Jammu:  Prof. Nazeer Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, met Governor N.N. Vohra, Chancellor of the University, at the Raj Bhavan.

Prof. Nazeer Ahmad informed Governor about various academic and research initiatives and achievements of the University which include: in Session 2018 the admission to Undergraduate/Post-Graduate and Ph.D. has increased to 1082; 32 students have been selected in Campus recruitments by M/S B-Able Industries and IIIM, Jammu; Rs 8 lakh have been distributed among students of Ladakh region under the Frontier Scholarship Scheme; University has signed a MoU with the Seven Star Fruits Private Limited, Maharashtra, to establish a collaborative program to advance scientific knowledge and to bring new high yielding varieties and disease free root-stock of temperate fruit crops to the State.

VC informed that in the research arena 13 new projects, worth Rs. 2.30 crore, have been secured by the University; experiments on High Density apple and clonal rootstock production have been taken up in multiple-locations and 50,000 rootstocks readied for grafting; spray schedule for temperate fruits with new effective chemicals has been finalized;  new greenhouse technology for cultivation of vegetables and mushroom has been developed at KVK, Leh; at Zanskar new crop varieties of potato, wheat, barley, vegetables, peas etc have been introduced with promising results; Silage farming and solar pump introduced at HMAARI, Leh.

Governor complimented  Prof. Nazeer Ahmad and his colleagues for Kashmiri ‘Anz’ being recognized as India’s first registered geese breed by the Breed Registration Committee of Indian Council of Agricultural Research and for the University team securing the second position in the All India Vic-Chancellor’s Cricket Tournament held at Punjab University, Patiala.

Governor re-iterated his concern for high attention being paid, on sustained basis, for improving the teaching programs and achieving tangible outcomes in all the research programs.
