Div Com(J) reviews disaster mgmt preparedness

Jammu: Divisional Commissioner, Hemant Kumar Sharma, convened a meeting  to review the  disaster management preparedness and action plan of State Disaster mitigation Fund in Jammu division, here Thursday.

Commissioner JMC Ramesh Kumar, Director School Education Jammu Ravinder Singh, Director Disaster Management & Dy CEO J&K SDMA Aamir Ali, Director Disaster Management Centre University of Jammu Prof. S. K. Pandita, commandant SDRF , Director Radio Kashmir Jammu Anjali Sharma, Joint Director Information Jammu Naresh Kumar, Station , Deputy Director Information (PR) Jammu Atul Gupta, Secretary Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region Dinesh Gupta, General Manager SICOP Rajesh Pandoh besides other senior officers of concerned departments attended the meeting.

Detailed discussion was held on issues like procurement of rescue equipments, conducts of national level workshop on Disaster preparedness, mock drill on Disaster preparedness/awareness at Divisional level, advertisement of disaster related awareness program in print and social media, documentary related to disaster awareness program, training program on Disaster preparedness, community based disaster management, besides financial aspects and other vital issues.

While discussing the mechanism Divisional Commissioner stressed upon the need for close coordination among different departments. He directed concerned to identify volunteers as manpower resource to be utilized as rescue teams, during natural or manmade disasters. He emphasized for conducting programs with regard to Disaster management to spread awareness among people about the immediate response towards different manmade and natural disasters to mitigate loss of life and property.

Hemant asked for setting up of alternate system of communication besides effective use of Radio as alternate information dissemination source.

Divisional Commissioner also called for chalking out effective strategies for revamping disaster management plan including sensitization of people appropriately of the preventive measures to be taken to deal with the disaster situations, holding mock drills in educational and other institutions, organizing Incident management trainings at different level.
