Srinagar: Traffic on national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was restored this evening after remaining disrupted following fresh landslides on Tuesday, official sources said.
Traffic on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was put through this evening, a traffic police official told UNI.
He said vehicles, stranded on both sides of the highway, have been allowed to move towards their respective destinations.
He said traffic was suspended on the highway following landslides at Magarkote area, where a portion of hill had caved in.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintainance of the highway, immediately put into service sophisticated machines and men to work to put through traffic.
Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying passengers, have been stopped at different places on both sides of the highway, they said. Similarly, large number of heavy vehicles, including those carrying essentials for Kashmir, were stopped. However, vehicles were now allowed to proceed towards their respective destinations after the landslides wereremoved, they added,
