Coalition troubles and future of PDP in Kashmir

PDP which takes pride in the formation of coalition government is contradicted on every issue by the BJP which during the ongoing assembly session demanded military action against Pakistan to contradict none else than the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on her demand over dialogue Pakistan for the resolution of the current crisis triggered by the repeated firing on LoC between the troopers of India and Pakistan. Fact of the matter is that the BJP is not ready to budge even an inch from its state position over continuing deadlock on talks with Pakistan over the resolution of the Kashmir issue and the crisis on borders between the divided parts of Kashmir administered by India on this and Pakistan on the other side . Though the opposition National Conference sought an explanation from the government over the BJP’s demand for military action against Pakistan in total contradiction to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s demand for talks with Pakistan for resolution of current border crisis, but the minister of parliamentary affairs Ab Rehman Veeri told the house that Chief Minister’s statement is the official stand of the government. True it is that Chief Minister’s statement is the official stand of the government but the partners of the government disputing the Chief Minister’s statements on government’s key policy decision should have been asked to withdraw their statement on the floor of the house. BJP has made the statement to dispute the Chief Minister on key policy decision on the floor of the house and as such the saffron party should have been asked by ally PDP to withdraw the statement on the floor of the house. The BJP despite being an ally of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is deviating from well defined positions on the issues like crisis on borders and stabilization of peace and security in the state.
Unfortunately PDP’s climb down on issues linked to resolution of conflicts in Jammu & Kashmir has emboldened BJP leaders to contradict the Chief Minister on major policy decisions having a direct bearing on the atmosphere of peace and security in the state . The latest blow to the PDP are utterances of Home Minister Rajnath Singh who instead of dropping hints on opening up the diplomatic channels with Pakistan for resolution of border crisis has said that India would fire ten bullets against every bullet Pakistan fires on Indian borders in Jammu & Kashmir state. The failure of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to persuade the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh to open up dialogue channels with Pakistan is in fact one of the factors responsible for failure of the government in restoration of peace and stability in Kashmir . Taking non serious the unfolding developments in Kashmir valley could prove detrimental for the future of peace and security in Jammu & Kashmir state and as such the responsibility for restoring peace and normalcy lies on both the central and the state governments.
