Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took a dig at minister of state for civil aviation for his claim that air travel in the country was now cheaper than auto-rickshaws.
Mr Abdullah, working president of the main opposition in J&K, National Conference (NC), in a tweet said “ He obviously hasn’t flow to Leh in the winter or to Srinagar when the highway shuts down”.
He was reacting to claim by of Mr Sinha that air travel in country now cheaper than travel by auto-rickshaws on per kilometre basis.
The airfare witness many fold increase from Delhi, Jammu and Srinagar to Leh during winter when the national highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir, remained closed due to accumulation of snow and slipper road conditions, particularly between Sonamarg-Zojila-Meenmarg.
Similarly during the closure of Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, airfare from different parts of the country witness several fold increase. Also during the peak tourist season, airfare is witnessing increase. The government has also not intervened to regulate airfare during tourist season and suspension of traffic due to closure of highway.
