Life returns to normal after 10 days in Shopian

Srinagar: Life returned to normal on Sunday after remaining affected for ten days due to strike against the civilian killings in Shopian district of south Kashmir.
However, normalcy returned to another south Kashmir district of Pulwama yesterday after strike for 9 days against the civilian killings in Shopian.
Shops and business establishments, which are functioning on Sunday, were open today and traffic was also plying normally.
However, security forces and state police personnel remained deployed at sensitive places to maintain law and order.
Large number of security forces have been deployed on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, passing through south Kashmir, including Pampore, Awantipora, Sangam, Bijbehara, Anantnag and Qazigund to prevent any stone pelting incident.
The mobile internet service, though with less speed, has also been restored in south Kashmir after remaining suspended for about ten days as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of rumours.
Three civilians were killed and eight others were injured when Army opened fire on demonstrators in Shopian while a 10-year-old boy Musharaf Fayz, who critically wounded when an explosive device went off, in Shopian on January 25, where people were removing debris of a house damaged during an encounter in which two militants were killed by security forces on January 24, succumbed in a hospital on Thursday. A youth was also killed and two girls injured when security forces opened fire to disperse demonstrators, who were trying to disrupt the Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Shopian on January 24.
