Srinagar: Authorities Friday detained Kashmir’s top cleric and All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq after he tried to defy restrictions and came out from his residence to visit South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Strict restrictions are in place in old Srinagar city while authorities are likely to disallow Friday congregational prayers.
Separatists had appealed people to visit Shopian, however, government launched a crackdown on them and detained them either in police stations or in their houses.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was arrested and shifted to police station Nigeen after he came out from his Nigeen based residence in Srinagar.
