Jammu: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS & CA), Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali Saturday informed the House that the government will examine the demand of Legislators with regard to enhancement of ration quota for snowbound areas.
The Minister was replying to the Calling Attention Notice moved by the MLA Inderwal, G M Saroori in the Legislative Assembly in this regard.
The Minister said after the implementation of National Food Security Act 2013 in the State, there was persistent demand by the consumers for enhancement of scale of food grains owing to difficult and hilly terrain, low agricultural productivity and prevailing situation in the State after which the state government came up with Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme (MMSFES) to provide additional entitlement of 5 kilograms food grain out of the state resources to bonafide rationees having family size from 01 to 06 subject to maximum of 35 Kgs per family were provided at a rate of Rs. 12/- (Wheat), Rs. 13/- (Atta) and Rs. 15/- (Rice) to all categories.
He said various MLAs belonging to snow bound areas approached the Department for further enhancement of food grains after which the cabinet accorded sanction to the enhancement of maximum upper limit from 35 kgs 50 kgs per month under MMSFES in certain snow bound remote areas.
The Minister said now again the representatives of some snow bound areas and concerned MLAs have approached to this department for enhancement of foodgrains from 35 Kg to 50 Kg, in their remote areas including Keran, Jumgund Tehsil Trehgam and Chatroo in Inderwal Constituency. He said the demands shall be examined in the Department and shall be placed before the cabinet for consideration.
