Pulwama: Panic gripped South Kashmir’s Pulwama town when militants attacked New Court Complex building during the dead of the Sunday night.
The Court Complex is guarded by security personnel.
Sources said that militants targeted the building and resorted to indiscriminate firing. “The security guards retaliated while the exchange of fired continued for almost an hour. The gunshots broke the pin-drop silence while people kept on guessing the actual location of the attack.”
Sources added that though nobody was hurt in the attack, the militants managed to escape from the area.
Shortly after the exchange of fire stopped, the Government Forces comprising 55 Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army, SOG of Jammu Kashmir police cordoned off three villages of the district and launched a search operation for almost an hour.
“The villages including Gudora, Barpora and Wagum were brought under siege after the attack. However, no arrests were made,” said a police official.
This month, militants have shown frequent presence in the district. On 19 January, at least 8 policemen including two Sub-Inspectors were wounded when militants lobbed a grenade on police station Pulwama. During late hours on January 26, militants launched another grenade in the town; however, no one was hurt in the attack.
