Padmavat row: Why aren’t Karni Sena men tied in front of jeeps, questions Omar

Jammu: Former chief minister Omar Abdullah has questioned why activists of extremist group Karni Sena were not tied on the “front of jeeps and paraded in front of school buses and cinema halls.”
Abdullah was reacting on the protests held across Indian states on the release of a Bollywood movie ‘Padmavaat’.
In a apparent reference to last year’s incident when a Kashmiri man was tied to the bonnet of a jeep by the army on the day of the Parliamentary polls in Budgam district, Abdullah wrote on Twitter: “Why aren’t Karni Sena goons being tied to the front of jeeps & paraded in front of school buses & cinema halls? Isn’t that a much lauded crowd control measure?”
Last year, army chief and central government had defended the army’s action terming it as a ‘crowd control measure’.
A school bus was attacked last Wednesday at Gurugram in Haryana by a mob demanding a ban on the movie ‘Padmavat’. Extremist groups including Rajput Karni Sena have gone on a rampage demanding ban on the movie that depicts “romance” between a Muslim king and a Hindu queen.
