Though R&B department is the main indicator of the development in any state but in Jammu & Kashmir the minister holding the R&B portfolio was virtually embarrassed for giving wrong information about the macadamisation work in different constituencies of Kashmir. Very rightly Nazir Gurezi the Deputy Speaker assembly directed the government to take stringent action against the officer who has prepared the draft of the reply for presentation in the house by the minister concerned but what matters is the seriousness on the minister about the issues that come his way during the proceeding in the assembly. Though it is for the Chief Minister to take serious note of the non seriousness the concerned minister has shown in presenting details before the assembly but all now the Chief Minister won’t both to even seek an explanation from the concerned minister for misleading the assembly the highest legislative body of the state by presenting wrong information which he could have cross checked from concerned quarters before presenting the same in the assembly. The wrong information about the macadamisation undertaken in different constituencies of Kashmir valley shows the confusion that has gripped the officers in the R&B department.
Though the minister concerned admitted errors in the figures shown by him in the details presented before the assembly but he did not bother explain his inability to cross check the figures shown in the draft reply prepared by an officer of R&B department for presentation in the assembly. So not only the working of the department but also the performance of the concerned minister has come into question and none else than the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has the authority and responsibility to seek explanations from the minister and keep a vigil on the working of the department in future. The worrying part about the performance of the said minister is rising dissent against him even within the party as one of the sitting MLAs of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic party commanding great deal of following of a particular community sought the expulsion of the said minister from the cabinet in view of his failure to prove himself a genuine political worker in any part of the state. The grave lapse has proved the contentions of the said MLA of the ruling party that the concerned minister is not fit to hold the portfolio which has been given to him just for showing unstinted loyalty to his. Fact remain loyalty is not as important as is the deliverance for a politician holding the position of a minister in the cabinet. Fitness for the post has to be judged by the Chief Minister herself and the lapses exposed by the wrong information about the details of the macadamisation work in different state has left no scope for the Chief Minister to give a clean chit to him now. Knowing that the concerned minister has nothing to lose as he has no political constituency where he would face people, the Chief Minister has to take care of her accountability before the people and ensure that the concerned minister pays the price for committing unpardonable offence in the highest legislative body of the state.
