Legislators call for augmenting power generation, improving supply position in LC

Jammu: Several Legislators participated in special discussion on the power sector in the Upper House.

Initiating the discussion Sajad Ahmad Kichloo strongly demanded for constitution of House Committee which will visit all the existing and proposed power projects and submit suggestions with regard to providing compensation for land owners, environmental issues, and employment opportunities for local youth and uninterrupted power supply to the people of the catchment areas of power houses.

Firdous Ahmad Tak while participating in the discussion said that a comprehensive policy for rehabilitation of the affected families has been formulated by the government for the first time. He called for appointing local human resource in the power projects being implemented by CVPPC to facilitate local employment generation. He forcefully argued in favour of protecting the socio-economic rights of the people of the area while taking up construction of the power projects. He also called for using CSR funds for local development.

Ghulam Nabi Monga called for undertaking the comprehensive program for providing hospitals, schools and other related facilities to the affected population. He also called for providing free power to the catchment radius of 5 kilometres of the proposed power house

Ashok Khajuria also spoke and complemented the government for undertaking new initiatives in power sector to augment the supply and make state self sufficient.

Naresh Gupta while taking part in the discussion call for establishment of a House Committee and also undertake a comprehensive exercise to discuss the environmental concerns.

Sham Lal Bhagat called for undertaking adequate rehabilitation measures for the affected population. He also called for establishment of a House committee and also provision of jobs to the skilled youth of the areas.

Sofi Yousuf while praising the coalition partner’s government highlighted the initiatives taken by the government undertaken in the power sector.

Girdhari Lal Raina called for extending National Rehabilitation Policy to the State.

Surrinder Kumar Choudhary called for returning of power projects to state. He also called for   undertaking necessary measures for well studying environment impact and necessary rehabilitation for the people.

Yasir Reshi while referring to the agenda of Alliance said that for first time the government has called for return of power projects.
