Missing minor girl found dead in Kathua, protests held

Jammu: As an eight-year-old girl, who had gone missing a week ago, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua district of Jammu province triggering protests, the members of the main opposition National Conference, Congress party, CPI(M) Secretary M Y Tarigami and Peoples Democratic Front Chairman Hakeem Mohammad created an uproar over the killing of the minor girl and staged walk out from the house. Hurriyat Conferene (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Molvi Umer Farooq also hit out at the government for showing what he called “callousness”. Reports early Thursday morning said “A minor girl missing for the past one week was found dead in Rasana village of Hiranagar tehsil of the district,” said a police official. “We have shifted the body to the District Hospital Kathua for postmortem,” he added.
Reports said that there were serious injuries on the face of the girl.The police has formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the case. “We have filed an FIR. A SIT has been constituted,” SD Jamwal, Inspector General of Police, Jammu, told NDTV. The family and the relatives of the girl staged a protest, demanding swift investigation into the case and arrest of the culprit.
Meanwhile opposition National Conference, Congress party, CPI(M) Secretary M Y Tarigami and Peoples Democratic Front Chairman Hakeem Mohammad created an uproar over the killing immediately after the proceeding started in the house and staged a walkout to protest against the murder of the girl of Bakerwal community in Kathua district.
As soon as proceedings of the House began, Congress and NC legislators stood up to protest against the murder of the little girl of Kathua. The body of the girl, who was allegedly abducted a week ago, was recovered yesterday from bushes in Hiranagar.
The opposition legislators alleged that police did not make any efforts to trace the girl after she was abducted.
“You should suspend the local SHO,” demanded GM Saroori of Congress party. The opposition legislators also alleged that minorities were being harassed in Jammu region.
Responding to the opposition, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rehman Veeri said government has constituted a special investigation team to probe the murder.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed her anguish over the “gruesome” murder of eight-year-old girl, belonging to Bakerwal community in Kathua district of Jammu province .
Expressing her anguish over the killing and assuring an investigation into the killing Vhief Minister Mufti wrote on micro blogging social networking site Twitter“Outraged by the heinous incident in which a young Bakerwal girl has lost her life. Incidents like this will be investigated expeditiously & the guilty will be punished” .
Earlier in the day, opposition parties staged a walkout from the Legislative Assembly to protest against the murder of the girl of Bakerwal community in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also condemned the “callousness” of the authorities over the murder of a minor girl in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The callousness of those in charge in not tracing the child missing for a week is condemnable!” tweeted Mirwaiz. He said that the murder of the eight-year-old girl had saddened him. “Saddened by the barbaric and shameful act of rape and murder of a minor Bakerwal girl child in Kathua,” he said.
The murder of the girl on Thursday sparked outrage in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly with the opposition members alleging that the minorities were not safe in Jammu region.
