Jmu Varsity lifts Silver Rolling Trophy at the 3rd Annual North Zone Inter-University Declamation Contest

Jammu: At the 3rd Annual North Zone Inter-University Declamation Contest which was organized by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, here Thursday, the team comprising Sangh Priya and Shivika Thakur of the University of Jammu, lifted the Silver Rolling Trophy which was instituted by Governor N. N. Vohra in 2015.

The topic of the Declamation Contest was “Is Digital Intervention in Education among the most Pressing Challenges?” 32 participants from 16 educational institutions from within and outside the State participated in the Contest. The 1st Prize was won by  Sangpriya of University of Jammu; 2nd Prize by  Sheenam Dhingra of Punjab University, Chandigarh; and 3rd prize by  Shivika Thakur of University of Jammu.  Prateek Sharma of GGM Science College Jammu and  Mehak Ayaz of University of Kashmir won Certificates of Merit in the Contest.

Governor, who was the Chief Guest at the Valedictory Function, observed that technological interventions helped a vast majority of our youth to have access to quality education. To gain the maximum benefit from the technological openings, he stressed the need to evolve a balanced approach between interactive teaching-learning methods and usage of technology to acquire knowledge.

Citing the many advantages of the SMART classrooms, Governor observed that lectures of great educationists can be heard in colleges and universities and also replayed for the benefit of students in far off and remote areas and students who had missed hearing them in the first instance.

Governor observed that declamation contests, debates, sports and other extra-curricular activities instill confidence in youth and enable them to acquire the capability to express themselves in a coherent manner. Such capacities are of great advantage in their later careers, besides bringing out their best and ensuring their personality development.

Governor wished all the participants bright careers ahead and presented the Silver Rolling Trophy to the winning team.

The Jury comprised Prof. Lalit Magotra; Prof. Indu Kilam and Prof. Chanchal Dogra.

Governor released “KUL GEET”, “Taraana” of the University of Jammu on the occasion.

Prof. R.D. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Jammu University also shared his views on the topic.

The Welcome address was given by Prof. Satnam Kour, Dean Students Welfare, Jammu University and a Vote of Thanks was presented by Prof. Anupama Vohra, Associate Dean Students Welfare, Jammu University.
