Jamm/Jan,18: civilians and a Border Security Force (BSF) soldier were killed as the armies of India and Pakistan traded heavy fire and shelling along the border in Jammu province .
Pakistani military said that Indian troops from across the border have targeted villages along Kashmir, killing two women and wounding five others, including three women, in the latest “unprovoked” cease-fire violation.
In a statement, Inter Services Public relations – media wing of Pakistan army – said Pakistani troops responded to Indian fire on villages in the Sialkot district.
However, officials in Jammu said that a Border Security Force (BSF) soldier and a civilian were killed in “unprovoked” ceasefire violations last night in RS Pura and Arnia areas.
The slain soldier was identified as Head Constable A Suresh of 78 Batallion. He hailed from Tamil Nadu, said an official.
He said that a girl, identified as Sabity (aged about 13/14 yrs), daughter of Sat Pal, a resident of Dayala Chak Kathua was also killed in cross-border firing.
The girl was hit at the house of her maternal uncle at Pindi Charkan village of Arnia.
On January 13 as well, an Indian soldier was killed in Pakistani firing along the LoC in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
In retaliation, Indian army said that it mounted fire on the Pakistani side in Kotli sector’s Jandrot area, along the LoC on January 15 which saw killing of four Pakistani soldiers.
While the Indian army claimed it killed seven soldiers, Pakistan army also claimed that it killed three Indian army men in retaliation
