Srinagar: The relatives of a murdered goldsmith on Wednesday protested in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district to demand his body.
Police have arrested four people, who they said, murdered Tariq Ahmad Malik, 27, and threw his body in a river in Sopore area of Baramulla district.
The relatives protested in front of deputy commissioner’s office in Kupwara, demanding that the body of victim be handed over to them.
They also demanded exemplary punishment to the accused.
On Monday, Sopore police claimed to have arrested four persons on charges of murdering Malik – a resident of Kalaroose village of Kupwara – on December 26, with a motive to loot cash and jewellery from his shop. “The accused have been arrested but the police is yet to handover the body of victim. We demand an exemplary punishment to the accused and the body be handed over to us,” said Gh. Rasool Malik, father of the victim.
The victim who was the lone bread earner of family was running a jewellery shop in Sopore town for past few years, according to the family.The district administration assured aggrieved relatives of help in tracing out the body.
