Srinagar: After being accorded the second term as the state Congress chief by the Congress high command, G.A. Mir on Sunday casted indirect jibes at Kashmir’s regional parties, saying they all have joined hands with the communal BJP for power.
“In the past, it was the party with the red flag that was BJP’s ally and presently, it is a green flag party that has joined hands with the communal forces. The truth is that come what may, Congress hasn’t ever and will never join hands with the communal forces. Time has proven it and will prove the same in the future as well,” Mir told KNS.
On Sunday, the former tourism minister and senior leader of the party, G.A. Mir was asked by the Congress high command to continue as the chief of the state Congress for second time. Mir said his priority would be to keep the communal harmony of the state intact. He says that the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to divide Jammu and Kashmir on religious lines as divide and rule is the party’s core agenda. “The Jammu and Kashmir was known for its communal harmony however same is facing a dreadful threat from the BJP. Our party will strive to keep this unique identity of the state intact and unharmed,” says the Congress chief.
He added that amongst his priorities would be to strengthen peoples’ faith in the democratic institutions and rebuild the trust afresh. “The alienation among the people of the state is taking toll. The Congress will work hard to rebuild peoples’ trust and assure them that communal forces will get a befitting defeat and no one will be allowed to harm state’s secular fabric,” Mir told KNS. (KNS)
