Petition against Heavy School bags

Srinagar: High Court has directed the state government to decide easing of heavy school bags.
Double bench of Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice MK Hanjura said “We will leave it to Govt for easing down the heavy load of school bags.”
The Govt through their counsel AM Mir, deliberated court upon Govt policy on heavy school bags and their decision to send expert committees to Delhi for framing the best practical policy on easing heavy school bags.
In 2016 Law student of Kashmir University Badrul Duja filed PIL against Heavy School bags where High Court directed Govt through Commission Secretary Education and Director Education, to frame policy within three months.
After five months in 2017 contempt of court suit was filed against Govt by petitioner for not implementing heavy school bags policy.
Govt on Aug 2017 constituted expert committee comprising who have framed their policy for easing heavy school bags.
While pleading the case in court petitioner Badrul Duja informed court that “there is a big nexus between school authorities and books sellers which is the main cause of heavy bags”. “From June 2016 this matter is in court yet their is no implementation on ground” he added.
With the direction of High Court for solving matter upto Feb 2017, the bench closed contempt petition seeking easing of heavy school bags.
The final decision regarding heavy school bags lies with government now. (KNS)
