During their half hour long meeting, Chief Minister informed the Governor about several important matters in regard to which the Cabinet had taken decisions a few days back. She also informed about her Government’s decision to commence Panchayat elections from 15th February 2018.Governor re-iterated his concern about the vital importance of ensuring prompt redressal of public grievances and for the entire administrative system to function in a truly transparent and accountable manner, to promote public welfare.
Governor N N Vohra is likely to announce the conduct of panchayat elections during his address to the joint legislature on January 2 and the dates for panchayat elections are likely to announced by Panchayat Minister Abdul Haq Khan during the budget session in the assembly.
Authoritative sources disclosed that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti during her meeting with Governor N N Vohra Monday evening briefed him about the government’s decision to hold panchayat elections in February this year and formally requested the governor to announce the decision of holding panchayat elections during his address to the joint session of state legislature on January 2. Sources also said that notification for the Panchayat election will be issued in the month of February and the elections would be also held the same month (February). When contacted top official of Ministry of Panchayat Raj said ” the elections would be held on non party basis and as per the panchayat Raj act on which the last panchayat elections were held in the state”.
