Srinagar/Dec,25: The Christian community on Monday prayed for the peace, prosperity and brotherhood as they celebrated Christmas with religious fervor.
“Celebrating Christmas in Kashmir is a special occasion as people from across the world visit here during winter and come to churches and celebrate Christmas,” said Father Roy of All Saints Catholic Church MA Road in Srinagar.
He said that Christmas is an auspicious day when people from other faiths come and wish them.
“They (people from other faiths) take part in this festival with us and share happiness and joy with us. They pray along with us and pray for us also,” he said.
The Christian members also prayed for the return of peace to Kashmir, saying Kashmir belongs to all communities who lively peacefully side by side.
“We prayed for peace. Kashmir belongs to all of us and we live happily together. No Christian faces any problem here. Kashmiris are peaceful,” said a local devotee Margaret Mary after Christmas prayers.
“Peace will return to Kashmir soon by the grace of Jesus Christ,” she said.
Kashmiri Muslims also joined their Christian brethren to celebrate the occasion and give a message of brotherhood.
“We have come here to celebrate Christmas with our Christian brethren so that we give a message of peace that we are all brothers here,” said Atif.
