Restrictions imposed in Srinagar areas, Jamia closed for 3rd consecutive week

Srinagar:The district administration on Friday imposed restrictions in Srinagar areas in view of the valley-wide protest call given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL).
The pro-freedom leaders including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a joint statement had called for protest against the civilians killings and had appealed religious clerics to highlight the current situation.
Officials said that the restrictions were imposed in several areas falling under the jurisdiction of Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj and Safa Kadal Police Stations while the areas falling under Kral Khud and Maisuma Police Stations were put under partial restrictions as precautionary measure.
A large contingent of Police and forces were deployed in Srinagar areas who had erected concertina wires on the wires, halting the vehicular as well as the pedestrian movement.
Authorities also disallowed the mandatory congregational Friday prayers Friday for the third consecutive week at the historic Jamia Masjid here.
Local sources said that the authorities bared people to offer the Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid Friday.
“All the four of the gates of the Jamia Masjid remained closed for the fourth straight week today,” local sources said.
Meanwhile, the Jamia Masjid’s head cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house detention on Thursday evening.
Mirwaiz said that the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is breaking the record of her predecessors by disallowing Muslims from offering Fridayprayers and imposing restrictions in old city.
“18th Friday of this year #JamaMasjid locked down once again by the Anti Muslim ruling regime. @MehboobaMufti following the path, rather breaking the record of her predecessors by disallowing Muslims from offering Friday prayers and imposing restrictions in #ShareKhaas!,” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, reports said that the train services which resumed on Thursday after two days, was again suspended for “security reasons” in the Valley.
“We have again suspended the train services in the Valley for security reasons,” a railway official said.
