Dy CM appreciates role of JKP in restoring peace, organizing sports events

Jammu: While appreciating the role of Jammu and Kashmir Police in maintaining peace in the state, the Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh Saturday said they have also been contributing their bit in various other fields like sports and related activities.

The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at the concluding function of inter-zone sports meet 2017 organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police at Gulshan Ground here Saturday.

DGP, Dr SP Vaid, ADGsP, IsGP, other senior officers of the department were present at the function.

Deputy Chief Minister said JKP has been rendering yeoman’s contribution in ensuring that peaceful environs are maintained in the state. He said in their endeavour for maintaining peace in the state hundreds of JKP personnel have achieved martyrdom which would be remembered for ever.

Dr Singh said besides discharging their professional duties, JKP has also been actively promoting sports activities by holding sports events and tournaments which provide a platform to the youth and the police personnel to hone their talent and get the requisite exposure to excel at national and international fora. He said the sportspersons belonging to the JKP have also brought laurels to the state while winning several tournaments and also excelling in individual events.

The sports meet which had participation of 680 sportspersons of JKP showcased 20 games and the prize distribution ceremony was also held Saturday.

Dr Singh also distributed prizes and mementos among the winning teams and the individual sports persons.

Earlier, the deputy chief minister also attended the concluding function of football tournament organised by the 160 bn CRPF under the Civic action program at Parade Ground here.

IGP CRPF, chairman Service Selection Recruitment Board Simrandeep Singh and senior officers of the CRPF were present.

The Deputy CM while appreciating the role of the CRPF in fighting the anti-national forces said their contribution is quite remarkable and historic which needs to be appreciated and applauded by every section of the society. He said down the years, their role in maintaining law and order across the country has been commendable and they have also rendered innumerable sacrifices while safeguarding the nation.

Dr Singh while referring to the initiatives taken by the Prime Minister said Khelo India is a remarkable scheme which is ensuring that the sports infra and the related activities get the requisite augmentation so that the overall sports culture gets the necessary fillip. He said it will go a long way in ensuring that the country comes up as one of the major sporting nations of the World.

Later, the Deputy CM also presented the trophy to MHS School Nagbani which was declared as the Winner of the tournament. He also gave away mementos and certificates among the participating teams and the organisers.
