Jammu: Minister of State for Housing & Urban Development, Social Welfare, Health & Medical Education, Asiea Naqash Thursday asked the teachers to engage with children and bring out the best from them for society and for their own life.

The Minister was speaking at Annual Day function celebrations of a private school, here Thursday.

Vice Chairman, Medical Supplies Corporation J&K, Choudhary Manmohan Singh was also present in the function.

The Minister said it is nice to be with young people. Apart from making feel younger ourselves, one is able to share the joy energy and spirit that are commonly associated with youth.

The Minister said there is a need to lay focused attention to identify different aptitudes, abilities and interests of children   for proper development of their individual potential. ‘We should also equip our youths with the necessary knowledge and skills so that they can meet the demands of a fast-changing world and become lifelong learners’, she added.

The Minister said to equip the students with the skills of decision making, problem solving, critical thinking and creativity, teachers have to switch over to latest teaching practices.

“Rather than asking students to memorize and recite facts, the teachers should provide students the opportunities to learn independently, to retrieve information from different sources, to analyse it critically and   use it effectively through project learning and other multi-disciplinary learning activities”, the Minister added.

The Minister said life is like a large piece of marble and teachers are the sculpture, the mind and skill of a sculptor decide the shape of the marble. “It is your mind and skill that will help shaping life of our children,” she asked the teachers

The Minister congratulated the students for their success in studies and wishes them best for their future endeavours.

The founder Chairperson of the school, Veena Handa also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the achievements and progress of the School.

President Kissan Cell, Sat pal Charak, Patron Yuva Rajput Sabha Rajinder Manhas besides students, parents and teachers were   present on the occasion.
