Srinagar/Dec,20: Independent legislator and Awami Ittihad Party (AIP) supremo Er Rasheed was on Wednesday detained while he was heading towards Shopian in view of the killing of a woman in forces’ firing yesterday.
A spokesman said that Rasheed was detained by a police party on the way. “He was brought to Raj Bagh police station,” said the spokesman.Two militants and a woman were killed in a gunfight in Batmurran village of the district yesterday. Over 50 protesters were injured, several with bullet wounds, in clashes near the site of the gunfight.
Condemning the use of force on protesters resulting in the death of Ruby Jan, and injuring many at Batamuren Shopian, MLA Langate Er. Rashid on Tuesday said that “mainstream politicians need to discharge their duties without acting like collaborators before it is too late.”
“While pro-resistance leadership gets often caged and mainstream parties just make cosmetic condemnations and hue and cry, it seems yet again that security forces are at liberty to do what they want. The mainstream parties though have always sided themselves with those who deprive Kashmiris of their fundamental political rights, but now they must feel some pain of their people and get united to take a firm and stern stand to stop terrible human rights violations in Kashmir”, Rashid said in a statement.The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), a separatist conglomerate headed by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, has called for a shutdown today against the killings of civilians in operations launched by the forces.
