Srinagar:  Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Tuesday conducted a tour of Shahr-e-Khas, visiting deep interiors of this historic centre of Srinagar.

The DC also visited the historic Jamia Masjid at Nowhatta and several areas surrounding it on the occasion. The visit is said to be the first in years by a sitting deputy commissioner of the district.

During the visit, members of civil society and representatives of several traders’ associations of the area called on the DC and apprised him of their concerns about development and peace in the area.

The representatives escalated several local concerns of the area, bringing them to the notice of the DC and seeking their redress. Demands of pacing up ongoing developmental works in the area were also made by the locals.

The DC said the historic centre holds a particularly invaluable significance for the district and assured that all kinds of support will be provided by the district administration for its development.

He issued on-spot instructions for redress of various concerns raised on the occasion. He also assured of talking up ongoing development works with concerned agencies.

The local representatives of the area appreciated the DC’s visit to the area, saying that the visit had been long due.

On the occasion, Dr. Shah also visited the fire-affected shops at Gojwara Chowk here where at least 11 shops were gutted in a mid-night fire incident this past Friday. He sought an authenticated list of the affected shopkeepers from the concerned Tehsilder in order that relief is processed to the affected at the earliest.

The DC also visited the Khanqah-e-Maula shrine on the occasion and took stock of the ongoing restoration work in the wake of fire incident there last month. He reiterated his instructions for time-bound completion of the restoration work.
