Srinagar: Gunfight broke out between government forces and militants in Batmadav village of Wanpora area in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday.
Sources said that gunfight broke out after army’s 42 RR and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a search operation in the village Monday evening. “As the forces approached the suspected spot, militants opened fire on them, triggering a gunfight,” they said. They said two to three militants are believed to be trapped inside the cordoned off area.
The exchange of fire was on when last reports came in. Earlier, clashes erupted after people took to streets and staged protests.
