Srinagar: A complete shutdown is being observed in Magam town of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday to mark the anniversary of a youth killed on this day a decade ago during protests demanding the establishment of a college in the area.
Zahoor Ahmad Mir was killed after forces opened fire to disperse protesters demanding a college for the area.
“As the protests were spreading, forces opened fire and a bullet hit Zahoor Ahmad and he was killed,” said a local resident Idrees Ahmad.
All shops and other business establishments are shut while public transport is also off the road to mark Mir’s 10th death anniversary.
A programme is being organised post Friday prayers at Imam Bargah Yarigund in the town.
The college was later established in Beerwah town.
