Srinagar/Dec,13:Burglars broke into a wholesale merchandise store in Devar village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district last night and stole goods worth at least Rs four lakhs.
There have been at least eight such burglary incidents in the village during this year so far but police has failed to nab the burglars, locals alleged.
“This morning, I was shocked to see the rear brick wall of my general store broken apart and goods worth at least Rs. four lakhs stolen. The stolen goods include four cigarette cartons worth Rs 2, 40, 000,” said Showkat Ali Khan.
“I appeal police to intensify searches and nab the burglars involved in the act. There have been scores of such incidents in the past but not a single burglar has been apprehended,” he added.
Police picked up some suspects in the past but they were released later, said the locals.
“Had police cracked a single case of burglary in the past, more incidents could have been avoided,” said Naseer Ahmad, a resident.
Abdul Rashid, Station House Officer Lalpora, said: “Police has started investigations and the culprits would be nabbed soon.”
