Sports is great stress buster: DGP Vaid

Jammu: The Inter Battalion Sports Meet-2017 concluded with an impressive closing function held at Police Sports Stadium, Gulshan Ground here Thursday evening. In all 797 sports personnel and athletics including women players, representing 28 battalions of Armed Police and IRP, participated in the 6-day long tournament.

Director General of Police, Dr. S P Vaid who was chief guest on closing function said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has been playing a prime role in the promotion of sports culture in the State. The force, besides its professional duties has been focussing on the promotion of sports which is proving instrumental in channelizing the energy of the youth. Stressing upon the youth and the police personnel to avail opportunities provided by the Organization, he said that the sports are great stress busters and not only maintain physical health but also enhances mental capabilities of the person.

The DGP also directed all district SsP and Commandants of Armed / IR Bn. to create sports facilities in District Police Lines and Battalions for enhancing the capabilities of youth as well as jawans. He said that sports plays a great role in maintaining a good health and relations which is very important for police personnel. DGP also said that 66th B.N Mullik All India Police Football Championship will also organised by the J&K Police.

Earlier, the Additional Director General of Police, Armed Shri A.K Chaudhary welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. He said that this event was organised to give a fillip to the sports activities in the Armed Police and to spot the sports persons who can represent J&K Police in National Police events. IGP Armed Jammu Zone, Shri S.A. Watali presented vote of thanks. He thanked the guests particularly the retired police officers, media fraternity.

The DGP distributed trophies and prizes among the winning teams and athletes. He congratulated the winners and advised them to refine their talent for other competitions. The efforts of organising committee, team of officers and supporting staff was lauded by the DGP on the occasion for making the event a success. He also announced a reward of Rs.15000/- each for best eight contingents in march past.Result of Inter Batallion Sports Meet-2017 are as under:-

As Winner and Shri Randeep Singh, CO IRP 10th Bn. as Runner up, in Table Tennis Shri Sumir Kotwal, SP IRP 15th Bn. as Winner and Shri Swaran Singh Kotwal, CO IRP 6th Bn. as Runner up, in Badminton Singles Shri Liyaqat Ali, SP JKAP 7th Bn. as Winner and Shri Nasir Ahmed, SP IRP 17th Bn. as Runner up, in Lawn Tennis Shri Sanjay Kotwal SO to IGP Armed Jammu as Winner and Shri Nasir Ahmed, SP IRP 17th Bn. as Runner up, in Badminton Doubles Shri Liyaqat Ali, SP JKAP 7th Bn. and Shri Nasir Ahmed, SP IRP 17th Bn. as Winners and Shri Zahid Ahmad and Shri Kuljit Singh, Dy.SsP of JKAP 9th Bn. as Runner up. IRP 15th Bn. was given overall trophy (Women), IRP 10th Bn. as over all trophy (Men) and overall champion Trophy (Men) was given to IRP 17th Bn.
