Handwara: Police in Handwara town of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district have arrested a fraudster who duped dozens of people minted money from them after providing them fake job orders.
According to police the imposter namely Fayaz Ahmed (34), alias Zahoor, a resident of Vilgam Handwara used to pose as a government recruiting agent and giving people fake job offers from different government agencies including top officials of Police department.
“We arrested the cheater on a joint complaint filed by the victims that he grabbed money from them in the form of recruiting fee while all the job offers were fake,” SDPO Handwara said.
The accused is also a dismissed SPO who thought of this illegal innovative plan and duped the victims by dialing fake phone numbers, pretending to be a frequent visitor to the offices of higher officials.
“The irony is that the accused provide job letters to some people on Jammu Kashmir Police Letter Heads even mentioning the names of top police officers with their fake signatures. When these police officers asked us to inquire the matter, everything became clear when we laid a trap and arrested the accused.
SSP Handwara Gulam Jeelani Wani confirmed the arrest of the accused. He said Manzoor Khan of Hygam Batapora Kupwara and Nazir Mir of Wasun Kupwara were his latest victims.
“The cheater has been booked and a formal case vide FIR number 387/17 under section 420,467 RPC stands registered against him.”
“Police Department requests the general public to remain cautious from such disguised cheaters and to abstain from such fraudulent activities,” SSP Jeelani said.
