World Soil Day observed in Ang

Ang: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) in collaboration with District Administration Anantnag observed World Health Day in Anantnag Wednesday.
On this occasion, an awareness program was also organised to aware the farmers regarding the modern scientific ways of farming and soil testing. Scientists from SKUAST provided awareness to the farmers regarding soil testing and soil health. Experts stressed upon the proper sampling of the soil for better soil testing results. The speakers advocated for the use of wormy compost and domestic compost for maintaining the soul fertility.
Director Extension SKUAST, Professor Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad said SKUAST will provide all the necessary instructions and technology to the farmers and orchardists for disease free and better yields. He said SKUAST has been providing expert instructions and latest information regarding farming to the farmers since decades. He added that people have been intentionally or unintentionally harming the soil which needs to be addressed and such programs provide awareness to the people regarding the importance of soil health.
DDC Anantnag Mohammad Younis Malik while addressing the farmers and officials said time has come to save the soil as our future lies in safeguarding of the soil. He added that since the agricultural land is shrinking day by day for being used for construction purposes, therefore construction on farm land should be checked and need of the hour is to save the land for farming purposes. He added that soil is our asset and we should fight for its sustainability at individual level as well as at collective level. On this occasion Soil Health Cards were also distributed among the farmers.
