Jammu/Dec,2: Mehbooba Mufti the incumbent Chief minister was on Saturday re-elected as the president of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the record sixth consecutive time.
PDP’s Electoral College met in winter capital of Jammu today, where Mehbooba was ‘unanimously’ elected as head of the party.
“The election for the post of the PDP president was held today where she was elected unopposed,” said a party leader.
The PDP was headed and founded by late Mufti Mohammed Sayeed in 1999.
Mehbooba is occupying the post since 2003 when she for the first time became the president of the party after her father, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, became the Chief Minister in 2002.
After Sayeed’s death in January 2016, when he was heading the coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, she took forward the same alliance with rightwing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the second time the BJP and the PDP formed a government in the state.
Subsequently, on April 4, 2016, she took the oath and became the first woman chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
