Govt extends Gratuity benefit to NPS employees

Jammu: In a significant decision, the Government has extended the benefit of Death-cum-Retirement gratuity to the employees working under the New Pension Scheme (NPS).

“Provided that the Government employees/ family members of such Government employees as have been appointed or brought on regular establishment on or after 01.01.2010, on their retirement/death in harness shall be paid Death Cum Retirement Gratuity as per Rule 240-88 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Service Regulation. This shall be deemed to have been incorporated in the rules with effect from 01.01.2010, the date of commencement of Defined Contributory New Pension Scheme (NPS),” said a said a notification issued by the Principal Secretary Finance, Navin Kumar Choudhary.

The Government has accordingly inserted the said proviso below Rule 3-A of J&K Family Pension-cum-Gratuity Rules, 1964-schedule XV of J&K CSR Vol. 11.

Meanwhile, the employees of Civil Secretariat have expressed gratitude to Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti for issuing orders for extending benefits of Death Cum Retirement Gratuity for employees recruited under New Pension Scheme(NPS).

In a statement issued here today, Chairman, Civil Secretariat Employees Coordination Committee, Ghulam Rasool Mir hailed the Chief Minister for being sensitive to the needs and problems of the NPS employees and prioritizing them for early redressal.

The CSNGEU President also thanked the Finance Minister, Dr Haseeb Drabu, Chief Secretary, B B Vyas and Principal Secretary Finance, Navin Choudhary for the same and putting the directions of the Chief Minister into action.
