Sham seeks peoples’ coopn in conservation of water resources

Jammu: Terming water as the most valuable resource on the earth, the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary sought peoples’ cooperation in conservation of water resources saving every drop of water.

The Minister was speaking at the valedictory function of 1st CCDU T-20 Invitational Cricket Tournament at University playground Wednesday.

Dwelling in detail the aim of organizing the tournament, Sham Choudhary said it is the responsibility of every citizen to save every drop of water and keep the water bodies neat and clean for future generations.

Reiterating the commitment of government for providing safe drinking water to the citizens, the Minister appealed the people for extending helping hand for conservation of water resources. He underscored the need of rain water harvesting, saying that it is the best way to preserve the water which would also go a long way in raising the ground water level.

Complimenting the winning team, the Minister also appreciated the runner-up and participating teams for their performance. He said the participants in the tournament would play ambassadors’ role in spreading the message about the importance of conservation and preservation of water resources and its judicious use.

The Minister gave away trophies and mementos among the winner and   runner-up tea He also presented medals to man of the match and man of the series Parveen Bhat, best bowler Anil Raina and best batsman Sunil Sharma.

The final of the tournament was played between Engineer-XI and IGP-XI which was won by Engineer-XI by securing 115 runs.

The 8-day tournament was organized by the Communication & Capacity Development Unit (CCDU) in which four teams viz. Engineer-XI, IGP-XI, Div Com-XI and Media-XI participated. The theme of the tournament was “Jal hai to kal hai”.

Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr.  M K Bhandari, Secretary PHE M Raju, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Rajeev Ranjan, Chief Engineers, PHE and allied Wings, Executive Director, Communication & Capacity Development Unit, besides large number of sports lovers were present on the occasion to witness the final of the tournament.
