Srinagar: Condemning the “heinous and murderous” assault on Syed Shahid Yousuf in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, the Civil Society Budgam on Wednesday demanded his “immediate” shifting to Srinagar central jail.
“Keeping his security in view, it is impressed that Syed Shahid Yousuf must be shifted to Srinagar central jail to avoid further such incidents and ensure his safety,” the society said in a signed statement. They also demanded stern action against the security forces involved in the “heinous and murderous assault” on Shahid, son of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen supremo Syed Salahuddin.
The society said a 22-member delegation met Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on October 22 to convey “our deep concern about the unwarranted arrest” of Shahid.
The delegation sought the CM’s personal intervention in securing his release.
