Srìnagar/Nov,×8:A court in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday directed the police to get a local man, who was among eighteen Kashmiris tortured in New Delhi’s Tihar jail, treated at a hospital.

Ahtesham Ahmad, son of Farooq Ahmad, a resident of Batpora-Sopore, was brought to Srinagar on Monday from New Delhi and was produced before Sessions Judge in connection with an old case involving slain Hizb commander Qayoom Najar.

The court directed the police to get the victim treated at a hospital as “marks of injuries were visible” on his body.

Following the order, Ahmad was taken to sub-district hospital Sopore for treatment.

Ahmad (25) is among 18 Kashmiris who were allegedly assaulted by a unit of Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP) inside Delhi’s Tihar Jail on the night of November 21.

One of the victims is Shahid Yousuf, son of Hizbul Mujahideen Supremo Salahuddin.

A committee constituted by Delhi High Court has found that the TSP personnel allegedly beat up as many as 18 jail inmates of Tihar jail.

Yesterday, the Delhi High Court directed Tihar jail authorities to get all the victims specially treated at AIIMS Delhi.

The court will hear the case after three weeks following another report by a newly constituted committee, which is led by a district and sessions judge.

Taking cognizance of alleged attack on Kashmiri prisoners, J&K chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti, today took up the matter with government of India and has sought action against the accused.

Hurriyat (M) chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has appealed the international human rights organizations to take note of the torture of Kashmiri prisoners inside the jail.
