Srinagar/Nov,26: Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq was here on Sunday placed under house arrest a day ahead of the protest shutdown called by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL).
A spokesman of the outfit said that a posse of policemen arrived at the Nigeen residence of the Mirwaiz and placed him under house arrest. The detention comes a day ahead of the protest shutdown called by the JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik. Shutdown has been called as a mark of solidarity with Kashmiri prisoners lodged in various jails, in and outside the state. The leadership alleged that Kashmiri political prisoners are ill-treated in these jails.
