President LEDeG calls on Chairman LC, CEC Kargil

Kargil: Chairman Ladakh Ecological Development Group (LEDeG), Sonam Dawa called on the Chairman Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali and Chief Executive Councillor Kargil, Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan here Tuesday.

During the meeting, issues pertaining to the introduction and adoption of cost-effective and environment-friendly building technologies in Ladakh region with particular reference to Kargil district were discussed threadbare.

Chairman LEDeG apprised the Chairman and CEC Kargil about various projects underway in Leh district like the establishment of Building Centre at Leh for which the LAHDC Leh has already provided land measuring 26 Kanals to LEGeG in the solar township.

Sonam Dawa said LEDeG has introduced the use of mud bricks and hollow blocks in the construction of some government and private buildings in Leh district which have proved to be efficient and cost-effective with added features of heat retention, water resistant qualities as compared to cement bricks.

Underlining the introduction of the cost-effective technologies by LEDeG in Leh district, Dawa informed that LAHDC Leh has directed the PWD authorities to place supply orders to LEDeG for supply of compressed mud bricks in the construction of government buildings in the district and the same needs to be replicated in Kargil as well.

The Chairman LC and CEC Kargil while appreciating LEDeG functionaries for the introduction of initiative and relevant technologies in Ladakh region which are in conformity with the climatic conditions assured them all out support in the introduction of these technologies in Kargil.

Haji Anayat assured the Chairman LEDeG that he will take up the issue of allotment of land for the establishment of Building Centre at Kargil with LAHDC Kargil. He said issue with regard to funding for the project from Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) authorities will also be taken up in due course of time.

Executive Director LEDeG, Dr. NordanOtzer, several officers of the district administration besides other functionaries of the Group were present on the occasion.
