Expansion of Coop Movement Govt’s priority: Registrar

Srinagar: Emphasizing the need for expansion of Cooperative Movement in the state, Registrar Cooperative J&K Peerzada Hafizullah Shah, Monday exhorted people to be active participants of this movement so that more and more employment avenues are generated in the state.

While speaking at a function organized at “Athwaas Gah” Raj Bagh, in connection with the conclusion of 64th cooperative week celebrations in the State, he said Cooperative Movement is an International Movement which is celebrated across the world and said there is need to create mass awareness about the cooperative movement at the grassroots level so that poor section and unemployed in the society will be uplifted.

He stressed the need for a strong synergy among the authorities and the people as well to revitalize and strengthen the working of cooperative department.

While elaborating on department’s initiatives in this regard, Registrar informed that the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) had provided 45% subsidy with 10% simple rate interest to the 30 Poultry Cooperative Societies (PCS) in the state and the establishment of new 18 PCS will be in pipeline. Total 4500 students are studying in five cooperative schools in which free education have been provided to Orphans besides 50% fee rebate to the poor students. Department is contemplating to modernize the Cooperative Schools with all high-tech facilities.

Expansion of Jammu Kashmir State Cooperative Bank Limited (JKSCBL) branches across the state will be one of the new initiatives of the department.

Highlighting the Present year’s theme of Cooperative Week, which is “Empowering people through Digitalization of Cooperatives”, Registrar said, “Under the NABARD Scheme, Rs. 2 lacs will be given to each registered society for digitalization which is one of the steps for the revival of cooperative movement in the country”.

Chairman JKSCBL Shabir Ahmad, Principal Cooperative Training School Farooq Ahmad, Additional Registrars Cooperatives Reyaz Ahmad & M.M. Rehman also spoke about the potential of Cooperative sector and collective efforts to revive the Cooperative movements in the valley.

Deputy Registrars, all Assistant Registrars & Senior Officers from Cooperative department, Representatives of different registered Societies and prominent citizens were present on the occasion.
