Kavinder for coordinated efforts to empower girl child

Jammu: Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta Saturday said coordinated and convergent efforts are needed for improving the child sex ratio and ensuring survival and empowerment of the girl child.

The Speaker said this while addressing students, educationist, and parents during a prize distribution ceremony at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Satwari Cantt, here Saturday.

Kavinder Gupta while stressing on bringing about a change in the social perception towards female child, said girls have created a niche for themselves in every field and it is important that we encourage them so that they achieve success with confidence and courage.

He said the centre and state governments are paying special attention on checking the alarming child sex ration in the state with focused campaigns like the BetiBachaoBetiPadao scheme and special social assistance scheme like LaadliBeti, among others.

He called for sensitizing the society about the alarming decline in sex ratio adding that such programs must be implemented on a mission mode.

While calling to strengthen these initiatives, he said all member of the society need to work in unison to empower our female child.

Responding to issues put forth by Principal, the Speaker assured that the works pertaining to construction of classrooms, washrooms and examination hall will be taken up shortly.

He said initiative undertaken by the central government like SBM and SSA provides unlimited funding for works and they focus on increasing the standards of education and promoting the cleanliness in the country.

On the occasion, the students presented a variety of cultural performances which showcased state’s culture besides communicating a strong social message.

Appreciating the wonderful efforts of the students, Kavinder Gupta said special sports, cultural tournaments will be introduced in the institution with an aim to increase participation of the students in co-curricular activities and developing sports acumen. Besides, the cultural tournaments will also be aimed at creating awareness among students about state’s heritage as well as inculcating patriotic spirit among them.

SDM South SonuPargal, Tehsildar South Anil Mangotra, Dy SP Dr SunniyaWani, Vice Chairman Cantonment Board Hardev Singh, Member, Cantonment Board Bharat Bhushan were also present on the occasion.

Later, the Speaker attended a meeting of the Executive body of Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital.

Threadbare discussions were held regarding the functioning of the hospital, besides various issues pertaining to development of health care infrastructure at the hospital were taken up, in the meeting.

The Speaker assured of all necessary physical and financial help from his office, besides committing to take up all essential concerns with the Health Minister for early redressal.
